I’m not going to do any comparisons to other groups that are out there right now playing psychedelic laced Albums, These guys stand alone as a group that has that cohesive core sound, say late Beatles, sitar one moment then some fancy riffs with cool lyrics talking about getting hammered in the daytime, welcome to the new age same as the old age, some things stay the same in rock n roll much the same as what we define as cool music. Maybe it reminds you of other bands, maybe you have never heard of George Martin let alone George Harrison. Doesn’t much make a difference to what you will buy or play often, that’s up to your taste in music, for me , Richard In Your Mind take a sound that I love into this Century, and there is nothing wrong with that, in fact give a listen, I think you will be impressed at how good they are. Very cool variety of styles on the album as well, like the scratching… No need to worry about the future of Rock n Roll with bands like Richard In Your Mind out there …

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?
it can be different depending on the song, if its a more songy song chances are its been written on an acoustic guitar with the chords and lyrics arriving via unknown inspiration vessel, we would then experiment with what kind of layers we want to record around it. Our more ‘productiony’ instrumental and stranger ones come from experiments with synths, drums, loops and little chunks that get messed around with until it starts to feel substantial, then, if the time is ripe, lyrics and singing might appear and a song is born. After infancy there is a period of development where we listen and tweak and record and refine. Then into full maturity we take the songs to the Spod man Brent Griffin and we mix. You need beer and snacks and time for mixing. After that the songs are fully formed and smooth (or jagged if need be). Then The Master adds a shiny power magic and it all sound shmicko.
Our craziest gig ever was….at whiskey bar in Tasmania, Jordy and i were’nt wearing shoes so we could twiddle our guitar pedals with our toes, and the locals were getting restless and figured we needed shoes so they started putting their shoes on stage and it escalated until shoes were being thrown around back and forth, glass was breaking tempers were flaring, the moment changed, it became weird, dark weird. Luckily no one was seriously hurt and we got to drink some very nice whisky.
If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….
it would be 80000 bc or so, in Africa. That’s where you go to learn the real deep secrets of music. If you can learn some of those pure deep rhythm origins, i imagine you could conjure music that would make the mountains dance.
Growing up ,at home we listened to….. I cant speak for us all but i was listening to the original cast recording of the musical “Hair”, that and the Muppets Show albums 1 and 2
-What tunes are on heavy rotation for you… At this moment, all the Mac Demarco albums, An amazing African guy Francis Bebey, (his song “new track” is a great place to start) Aaron Freeman from Ween’s solo album ‘Freeman’.
**-If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?
“Weirdly enough we are opening for one of our all time faves in Brisbane next week… Cibo Matto!”
-If you could give any advise to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band , what’s your advise?
Write lots of songs, even if you think they suck, chances are you’ll get better but if you don’t start writing then you got no songs! Jam with people, make recordings, be free
-When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,
walking around looking for second hand/antique/junk shops
