From Edinburg. Meet, The Green Tambourine Band

This is for all the psych kids. Tripped out guitars, jams with a touch of the Velvet Underground. Put on some headphones , and take a little walk back in time . The thing that I like most is that they aren’t trying to recreate a sound, they’re just adding some personal touches to it and making the experience relevant to today….

Meet…..The Green Tambourine Band

Hi our name is…. The Green Tambourine Band.

And our sound might be best described as…. Melody-tinged Psychedelia.

We are….. Jack Burns, Liam Payne, Murray Pettit, Ross Lynchehaun (In photo L to R we are Liam, Jack, Murray and Ross.

We are originally from….. Edinburgh

The first time we met was….. Jack and Murray first met in Primary school at ages 4-6, Jack then met Liam at age 12 or so and the band began with Jack, Murray and Liam among others. It has now developed into The Green Tambourine Band with Ross who Liam met at work. Incidentally we all went to the same High School.

We knew we were going to be a Band when……… We have all been making music in various forms from a young age, we were always going to be a band.

Before starting the band we were employed as……. Various combinations of Education and work. One PhD, one music producer/engineer, a Financial Crimebuster, two supermarket assistants, two Amazon employees, a paintball marshall, an electrician, music tutors and the list goes on and on…

Our craziest gig ever was….All we can say is that it involved an Ox and some Jam.

The first song we wrote was…….Around 7 years ago Liam had some chords and Jack wrote a song called Come In/Come Out, around this time (I Just Want Your) Love was also written and we still play both to this day and they will appear on our next album.

It’s about……Come In/Come Out is about the symmetry and cyclical nature of the universe and life, perfect circle music. (I Just Want Your) Love was written while looking out a window at the snow topped Pentland Hills as the sun was beginning to melt the snow.

What we are currently listening to….Jack – Boogarins and various other Burger Records cassettes. Liam – MMOSS, Only Children. Murray – Buffalo Springfields first album. Ross – The Cyrkle, Neon.

A few albums we could never part with….

Jack – Revolver or Rubber Soul by The Beatles. SMiLE by The Beach Boys, Innerspeaker by Tame Impala.

Liam – Revolver by The Beatles and The Stone Roses.

Murray – Rubber Soul by The Beatles and American Beauty by The Grateful Dead.

Ross – Younger Than Yesterday by The Byrds and Dots and Loops by Stereolab.

We all agreed that Forever Changes by Love would be on the list and of course all of our own recordings/outtakes/jams/chants.

For fun we like to…..Play Table Tennis, listen to Manuel and the Electric Fish, walk, watch films and TV etc, dance and travel.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us…… …Let Yourself Be

Expect….. Upcoming gigs with The Sudden Death of Stars, the release of our first album …Let Yourself Be/Aum via The Active Listener and others, the recording and release of our next album, and lots of videos and gigs from us in 2014.
