Fun stuff as we head towards another summer weekend..
“These songs were recorded for fun. It was a rainy February, I’m not sure if it was before or after my birthday. We would catch the bus by 36th & Division, by our old practice spot, and take it downtown to our friend Justin Higgin’s studio. The spot is a huge house in SW Portland, overlooking I-405, perched up on the base of one of the west hills. We knew Justin from recording a split 7″ with White Fang and BOOM! on Hovercraft Records. I guess we originally intended them for some kind of LP but we settled on the original recordings, which became the self-titled Gnar Tape and LP on Underwater Peoples. After Chris Scott left the band to pursue Guantanamo Baywatch full-time, we filed away the recordings to be released someday, somewhere. Well, here it is; a homemade CD-R, or CD-GNAR actually. On it you will find some songs you may know from the album or live show, and maybe a few you’ve never heard! They aren’t demos, but they aren’t the final versions either; think of this more as a portrait of four wasted youths trying to sound pretty.” – Rikky Gage; Portland, Oregon 2013
