Montreal’s Hood Rats hit the streets in 2017 and have released a handful of EPs, (including one from our friends at Girlsville), singles, and one compilation. Surprisingly enough, their latest ‘Crime, Hysteria & Useless Information‘ from Dirt Cult Records/Bachelor Records is their first to see a vinyl release.
If you have heard the earlier stuff you probably know what you’re getting here, a powerful dose of back alley grime and feral ferocity. Lyrically there are the classic punk tropes of antiauthority, disenfranchised youth, politics, and mental illness (Get Out of My Head is practically an anxiety thesis), shouted gruffly over a full plate of hardcore-leaning garage rock. Think New Bomb Turks, Dead Boys, Motörhead.
The question is how many superlatives can I use to say Hood Rats pump up the adrenaline into overdrive? Not enough I say.
Crank this bad boy up.
