If you’re going to give your band a name that will guarantee you absolutely zero “mainstream” promotion, you’d better have gargantuan testicles to court the controversy that’s sure to follow. Case in point, the Fat Dukes Of Fuck have been hurdle jumping the gasps of the offended since their formation in 2005. Oregonians Jarrod Miller and Brent Lynch set up shop in Las Vegas, rolling the dice and taking losers’ bets on whether or not tourists would mistake them for a Tom Jones tribute act. Starting out as a two-piece, Jarrod and Brent spent a couple of years writing and recording music in their apartment, which birthed their experimental noise-metal debut “Bafomitorium” in 2007. The next two years found the Fat Dukes exerting their math skills as new members were added and/or subtracted from the equation, yet they still managed a second release during the turmoil titled “You and Your Opinion”. Released in 2008, this full length LP (with its Mr. Bungle-flavored metal), included such grin-inducing song titles as “Penetration Celebration”, “Death Fuck”, and “Will There Be Poop?” which would have surely placed it on repeat at many holiday celebrations.
With their entertaining live shows becoming a near (sac)religious experience in the Vegas underground, their fan base became legion, and it was obvious that the Fat Dukes weren’t flukes.
2009 was something of a transitional year for the Dukes Of Hazzardous Fuck, as this was when their line-up stabilized with the addition of bass player Jason Lamb (from Stockton, CA) and a local drummer, Jeremy Brenton (who moonlights with Las Vegas faves Demon Lung). With their creative jizz spewing, a number of releases were getting produced to satisfy the slobbering hordes rolling up to their shows. A promo EP (featuring “Don’t Take That Pussy Away”) was followed by the album “A Nasty Name For A Nasty Thing” which included “Eventually You’ll Do Something To Fuck It All Up” (with cowbell!), “Race Riot Vagina”, and “Shit Filled Suit”. In 2012, they collaborated on a split with Jeremy’s day (or night?) job Demon Lung, and another full length titled “Honey From the Lips Of An Angel”. More offensive behavior was found in the track listing, most notably “Sorry About Your Dick”, “Oral Agenda”, and “The Mighty Bulge”. Another split was released in 2013, this time with the Bitters (“High ‘N’ Live”), followed by the “Virgin Maker” EP, plus a two-volume collection titled “A Compendium Of Depravity, Apricots, and Urine”. The Fucks were, by now, sharing the stage with such rock ‘n’ roll stalwarts as Crowbar, the Mentors (naturally), Mike Watt, Deadbolt, and Green Jelly, among others.
In May 2015, the Fat Dukes Of Fuck headed to Los Angeles to record their most ambitious album to date, “A Compendium Of Desperation, Morality, and Dick Jokes”. Various members of Jesus Lizard, the Melvins, Demon Lung, and Qui were recruited for the production process.
According to Brent, this latest LP (which is available for pre-order) had been conceived several years back, with most of the material written during his and Jarrod’s numerous song crafting sessions in their Vegas apartment. They enlisted the help of Dead Nephews a.k.a. Dale Crover of the Melvins and Toshi Kasai (who’s worked with the Melvins, along with Qui, and Big Business) at Sound Of Sirens Studios in L.A. Tweaking the album, which has a darker feel than their previous output, Dale and Toshi also provided backing vocals, along with David Yow of Jesus Lizard (who provided the album’s artwork). Matt Cronk and Paul Christensen of Qui were along for the ride, also providing their vocal talents. Michael Skogman and Otto Dynamite were added muscle in the musical proceedings, with Kristie “Krasty” Piontkowski serving as executive producer. The track listing includes such new gems as “Mother Of Rhea Pearlman”, “Full Metal Jack Off”, “Where Assholes Come To Die”, and “I’ll Tell You When It Hurts”. If you’ve ever wondered what the Butthole Surfers would sound like if they went full-blown Mentors-style metal, then the Fat Dukes Of Fuck will satisfy your curiosity in spades. “A Compendium Of Desperation, Morality, and Dick Jokes” will drop on August 25.
