The Fall has been an obsession of mine for a while. Post-Punk bands are a dime a dozen. That being said, I really haven’t heard anyone that has affected me like The Fall has. The Fall has recorded about 60 singles/32 albums at this point. They really do vary a bit in style/quality. But the voice of singer Mark E. Smith becomes instantly recognizable. Mark E. Smith has remained as the only constant member of a band that has featured close to around 90 some members at this point. The band seemed to come out of the British Punk scene in Manchester, England in the late 70s but at this point they already seemed to be branching out from that sound and expanding on it to come up with that Fall sound you crave.
This is The Fall’s second single from 1978: “It’s The New Thing”. The A-Side is the catchy hit song of the two with a cool simple keyboard beat and the B-Side is a slower number called “Various Times”.
