Electronics infused pop band based in London , Meet – Polsky

Today we meet Polsky. This is fun stuff, full of pop and electro dancy beats , and let me tell you listening to Polsky today will be a lot more fun than watching the News or The Republican Convention that starts today. The music is fun and you can sing along or dance if you want to and that is part of the joy that music brings to our lives, it allows us to share joy together so give Polsky a listen today , you deserve a good smile…..

1) For those unfamiliar with your bands history, can you tell us all how you all met up and decided to start a band?

POLSKY has been a project of mine (Chris Warren, vocals, guitar) for a few years. I had been writing a collection of electronic concepts that developed into pop songs which emerged as an album theme. The full band came later as I started to work out a live show. Ben (Warn) joined first and he’s a classically trained concert pianist new the rock world but with an incredible gift for arrangement. Alex (Robertson) was introduced to me in a pub in Kingston after a show he did with his old band, GIN PANIC. We jammed a few times and jelled really quickly. Alex invited his friend Chris (Norman) to join us on bass and suddenly things started to take shape.

2) Who would you list as your musical influences?

We all have very diverse musical tastes which is great for post-rehearsal discussions/arguments/jousting tournaments, but the bands we all agree on include; Talking Heads, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, anything on Warp, Wire, the list is quite long so we’ll stop it there.

3) What’s the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started up?

Personally it’s been working with some really amazing musicians to name but a few , Rich Nuvo (XX Teens) Tim Welllet ( Marc almond , Neil Hannon ) Joe Watson ( Stereolab )

Chris Tickner ( Rick wakeman ) Chrs Bangs ( Talk in Colour )

Chris (Norman) recently appeared on ITV’s The Chase and managed to get a decent TV plug for the band. We actually gained a few listeners after that as well!

4) What are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years?

We already have a follow up EP and a couple of single s to come after the album so we’re really looking forward to getting these out there. We’ve also been writing tracks for album two. Generally we just hope for the same that most bands wish for: longevity, creativity and of course playing some bigger shows. We all just enjoy producing music for people.

5) What are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?

The knife – Shaking the Habitual, Savages – Adore Life, Yak – Alas Salvation, The Chemical Brothers – Future Echoes, Michael Kiwanuka – Love & Hate, Radiohead – A Moon Shaped Pool. There are loads more.

5) Do you see any real use for social media, or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?

It’s easy to get consumed by worrying about posting consistently but it’s much better to think about the quality of what you’re posting about. Social is a necessary tool for emerging artists to promote their work, communicate with listeners and attract potential fans. The negative is it’s a busy world out there so you have to be eye and ear catching in a few short amount of time.

6) Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off?

We’ve been lucky with reviews so far but that’s not to say that there aren’t people out there who don’t like what we do. Opinions are opinions, good or bad. It’s nice to hear when people like us but we don’t beat ourselves up when people don’t.

8) If you could tour anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?

It would have to be the States! We are planning a European tour for next year which is of particular interest to us all.

9) Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life?

Music has the power to transform you and validate you simultaneously. It can also totally capture a time and a feeling, locking an emotion away in a song forever. I don’t think any another art form can do that on such a universal scale.
