Listening to Don Covay’s 1966 record See Saw, it’s easy to realize why he influenced so many musicians over decades.
His upbeat songs are fun, lending themselves to the many cover versions they’ve received, and his soulful ballads are deep, touching. Covay’s voice is lush and soothing, full of emotion. It’s the perfect record to put on when it’s time to lie around and get in your feelings.
It’s definitely an album worth checking out if you haven’t already. And not just for the song everyone knows from its Rolling Stones’ cover…though the original version is certainly excellent.
