Shane Graybill, the man behind Cult Choir, sent us some songs from his new album “Fantasy 6” last week. After a pretty exhausting day last Friday, I finally got a chance to listen to them. Halfway through the album, I forgot about my awful day and felt remarkably relaxed. I guess “lo-fi dream pop” would be the best adjectives to describe his music. The entire album has a sort of a cool, low-key, ocean vibe to it. “Reach” and “Nobody” are two album highlights for me.
Shane has been recording and playing for about 3 years and this is his fourth full length album (produced by Andrew Rutter).
A few words describing the new album directly from Shane. “I was heavily influenced by the old school crooners of the 50’s and 60’s, was listening to a lot of golden era oldies as well as early surf rock during the writing process. I was looking to make a short and easy listening type album with Fantasy 6, my past ones were all almost 20 songs each and I intentionally didn’t want it the same length as those.”
Cult Choir have some shows lined up: August 15th at the Lizard Lounge in Lancaster, PA and on August 24th in Philly at the Milkboy Philly
Check them out if you get chance.
