Cheap Whine could be considered a supergroup of sorts. The three members play in various outfits: Steve Adamyk (Steve Adamyk Band, Sedatives), Eric French (Feral Trash, Varsity Weirdos) and Jordy Bell (Crusades) got together to play what they affectionately call “”Teenpop horseshit”.
The result is spectacular. Their self-titled debut (out now on Drunken Sailor Records) is 13 tracks of sweet, hook-filled power-punk ‘ala a sweeter Mean Jeans/The Marked Men. Their sound harkens back to the power pop gold of the Doughboys or The Nils and even The Replacements.
There’s a Westberg swagger throughout, most certainly on the standout “Best Times” which could slide onto The Mats “Tim” or “Let It Be” without anyone noticing.
This is a solid, solid record put together by masters of their craft!
