Record of the Day: Captain Cutiepie – First EP

Captain Cutiepie Cafe benefitWay back in 2017, October 6th, our band, Pug Skullz, got the chance to play a benefit show for the Cafe Colonial in Sacramento. On the bill was a band I’d been itching to see since I found their EP. Captain Cutiepie.

Who are Captain Cutiepie?

Erik, Benido, Taylor and Jules don’t really look like guys who would pal around with each other. Their personalities don’t seem to match up. But, they’re interested and enthusiastic youngsters with deep musical backgrounds and they get along great. With the strength of the Sacramento punk scene, they seem to have decided to take that tuneful experience and explore the edges of the garage punk genre.

Captain Cutiepie played their first show February 25th of last year. They are capturing people’s attention with their energetic shows and slightly off kilter songs. Upon taking the stage, these seemingly mild-mannered and timid young men transformed into a frenzied juggernaut. They seem to prove there is something innate to the psyche of young artists that allows them to create freshness in a sometimes stale genre. This is a band spinning at the cutting edge, and I can’t wait to see them play again. Catch them if they’re ever in your town. In the meantime, check out their first EP…if you like it, buy it and go like their Facebook page.

If you contact the band, you might be able to convince them to sell you a shirt. I like to wear mine to work just so everyone will call me Captian Cutiepie all day.
