This is for all my friends who hang out at the GaragePunk Hideout. The Mad Doctors are throwing a psychedelic fuzz fest party and they want you to play this at max volume and move to the groove. There are a few of us here at 50thirdand3rd who are big fans and members of The GaragePunk Hideout and maybe because of The Cramps or The New York Dolls, garagepunk is one of our favorite types of sonic blasts. The Mad Doctors are part of the new generation of garagepunkers and they do it well…so let’s Meet….
Hi our name is….
The Mad Doctors
And our sound might be best described as….
Twangy, fuzzy garage punk. Like The Dead Kennedys, Link Wray, and The Black Lips had a gross kid that loved B-movies and sweat.
We are…..
Dr. Seth Applebaum on guitar/vox n tiny synthesizers that make strange noises
Dr. Joshua Park on bass n breakin his low E-string
Dr. Gregory X on drums n splittin sticks
We are originally from…..
New York and New Jersey – commonly understood as the malpractice capitals of the country.
The first time we met was…..
We were all in med school. What an incredible waste of time that was. Teaching us how to CURE people and make their lives BETTER. Why again did we pay for this?
We bonded over tea and discussed ultimate plans of world contamination.
We knew we were going to be a Band when………
Our colleague Trevor Jude Smith booked us a show. We barely had any songs, so we slapped a few together and played our dear little hearts out. Surprisingly, we don’t still play most of those songs.
Before starting the band we were employed as…….
We are all (mal)practicing doctors in various fields. Dr. Applebaum is a surgery “specialist,” Dr. Park is a veterinarian, and Dr. X – well, that is undisclosed for various legal reasons.
The first song we wrote was…….
Alive and Well (and Living in Leningrad) – a slow, dank surf song we wrote in a concrete garage in Somerville MA and we recorded on a film field audio recorder and shotgun mic.
That ended up on our first EP Fuzz Tonic. Though we recorded it better.
It’s about……
Being alive and well and living in Leningrad…
What we are currently listening to….
Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, the cries of agony from the operating room, Sleep, NANCY, Crazy Pills, the voices in our collective heads, The Blind Shake, The End Men, The Gabba Ghouls, Warm Soda, King Tuff, Earth, Fire Retarded.
For fun we like to…..
Operate. It brings us profit too.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us……
Get drunk. Get very drunk.
Expect…..
Nothing but ear-shattering, tinnitus-inducing, face-melting,-oof I lost my train of thought.
Well, we have a 7″ we’re going to put out through King Pizza Records (pizza for your basement or garage, kids!) and probably a tape with our buddies Doctor Gone Records (NC represent)! Plus we’re touring our behinds off in Feb. – so if you happen to be in the midwest (PA, OH, WI, IN, IL, and the one that looks like a mitten), watch out!
