For all those who have survived a horrendous winter, he’s a few rays of sunshine from Bed Rugs. For fans of The Beatles, Dr. Dog and Tame Impala you may have found your new favorite band. I think they hold true to what they have been inspired by, I love the smooth vocals with the trippy tunes, reminds me of Lennon, and that’s more than enough to say I think you should give a listen to Bed Rugs. This interview is from our good friends at Ample Play. and now Let’s Meet…..

Hi our name is…. Bed Rugs.

And our sound might be best described as…. Psychedelic pop meets nineties indie.

We are….. Yannick Aerts, Stijn Boels, Noah Melis, Arne Omloop & Yorgos Tsakiridis.

We are originally from….. Different towns near Anwerp, Belgium. Except for Stijn, he’s from a town near Hasselt. We all live in Antwerp now.

The first time we met was….. Yannick and Noah are cousins, so pretty they’ve know each other much since birth. They met Arne and Yorgos at a local high school music festival: Yannick and Noah played in a band called The Porn Bloopers, Arne and Yorgos were in a band called Borokov Borokov. We really loved each others music so we started doing shows together as a double bill. Stijn joined the gang after Yannick met him playing the acoustic guitar one night he was playing a ton of Yannick’s favorite songs from that period and he was clearly a great guitarist and singer.

We knew we were going to be a Band when……… Yannick and Noah already were a two piece band called The Porn Bloopers but they needed extra musicians after recording an EP wich had a bunch of overdubs on it. So Arne and Stijn were asked to join the band. After a while we sort of changed course musically so the name was changed into Bed Rugs. After recording our second album, which had even more overdubs on it, we got Yorgos to join as well.

Before starting the band we were employed as……. We still are employed actually. Yannick and Arne are teachers. Stijn works for a production house and is co-hosting a tv show. Noah owns a coffee bar/vinyl store and Yorgos is a full time musician, playing in other band like The Hickey Underworld, The Rott Childs and his own band Hazy Hands.

The first song we wrote was……. Not quite sure, we wrote a lot of songs back in the day. But the first song we wrote that made it on an album was “Be A Little Strange”.

It’s about…… Encouraging people to be a little strange.

What we are currently listening to…. Doug Tuttle, Chad Vangaalen, Mac Demarco, The Go, Holy Wave, Rodrigo Amarante, Morgan Delt, Thee Oh Sees, Wax Children, White Denim, …

Our craziest gig ever was…. Almost all our shows are a little bit crazy. But usually the real crazy stuff happens before or after our shows. Over the years we’ve been in so many funny, strange or awkward situations that it would be discriminating to the other ones to pick out just one. The best way to find out is to come to one of our shows and see for yourselves!

A few Albums we can’t be without…. Revolver by The Beatles, At War With The Mystics by The Flaming Lips, Fiësta by The Go, Takers & Leavers EP by Dr. Dog, Good Morning Spider by Sparklehorse and Innerspeaker by Tame Impala.

For fun we like to….. The usual, we bowl, drive around, the occasional acid flashback. Oh, and watch The Big Lebowski.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us…… To support the bands you love.

Expect….. A Record Store Day 7″ release with our single ‘Purple Pill’ & ‘Dream On’, our 1st album ‘8th Cloud’ gets a US and UK release at the end of April (just the Benelux before) and finally a brand new album, we’re recording it this summer!

now that you’ve listened to Bed Rugs, go out and support them and make sure to add them to your list for Record Store Days must haves…..
