Blending it All Together From Philly… Meet, Toy Cannons

toycannons

If you took a batch of new wave artists and combined them you would come out with the sound of Toy Cannons. this is from their bandcamp and it describes them better than I ever could….Toy Cannons has developed a unique sound that can be best described as a melodic mix of new wave, oldies and pop punk. Few bands out there today can switch styles so effortlessly and seamlessly like Toy Cannons does. Take a listen or catch a Toy Cannons show to hear what people have been talking about. Overall, I love the range that the Toy Cannons have, I’m talking Surf all the way to shades of Elvis Costello. Smart Band, listen to them and I’m sure you will be impressed with the musicianship of Toy Cannons

Hi our name is….

Toy Cannons

People say we sound like…..

Elvis Costello, Don Ho sitting in with “More Specials”-era Specials

and sometimes The Ramones

We are..

Ben & Christina with various rotating members

We are originally from…..

Philadelphia

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

The Ramones, The Drums, Bo Diddley, Del Shannon and The Cars to name a few

The first time we met was…..

In 2012 at The Pussyat Club in Milford, NJ.

We knew we were going to be a Band…

After the first couple of recordings. Toy Cannons started off as a recording project that turned into a band.

Books we recommend …

Anything by Chuck Klosterman

Our craziest gig ever was….

In D.C. at Comet Ping Pong. Amps were bursting into flames and shortly after our set our old guitar player, Alex, was attacked by some half naked Sumo dude at the Feed The Scene house in Baltimore.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

1958 so we could see Chuck Berry before he lost his mind.

Growing up, at home we listened to…..

The Ramones, a lot of 90’s pop-punk and Oldies

What tunes are you currently jamming to…

Everly Brothers, Habibi and The Sonics at the moment

If you could open for any Band right now who should that be and why?

We’d like to open for The Sonics while they’re still playing shows.

When you are touring and have some time off, where could we find you…..

The Golden Nugget flea market, eating tacos and recording at New Sofa Studios.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us

Our songs are all over the place style wise so if you don’t like the first song you hear you might like the next one!

and be sure to keep up with and follow Toy Cannons…..
