Beach Surf Garage with a Reverb Kick…..Meet…Rich Girls

rich girls1

and this is the video for “Worse” which will be on the next EP…. New EP “Fiver” out 10.7 on Breakup Records

Lots of cool ass reverb, and filled with catchy beats. The voice has a little of Chrissie Hynde, especially the little noises thrown on at the end of songs like “The One I want” I find it difficult to lump Rich Girls into some category of understanding. The Reverb, Beach sounds, even a little surf guitar blend together nicely into a much needed update of some classic tunes. The Band is laying down some cool new rock n roll. Great music to listen to as you head towards the Beach and all you folks up North are going to need a little sunshine soon, so tune in and turn on to Rich Girls…you can thank me latter..

Meet The Band…

Hi my name is….

Luisa Black from Rich Girls

People say we sound like…..

60s garage meets 80s goth.

We are….

Luisa on guitar and vocals, August on guitar and Chris on drums.

We are originally from…..

San Francisco

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

It’s more ‘what’ than who. I’m super into reverb.

The first time we met was…

Our first rehearsal! Rich Girls was a solo project until about two weeks before our first live show.

Books we recommend …

Charles Willeford, Miami Blues. Roberto Bolaño, 2666. Also we could watch True Detective for the rest of eternity.

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?

Rich Girls started with just me writing and recording the first EP by myself. I didn’t have a band so I had to play all the instruments on the record which made the process fairly laborious. Basically I was locked in a studio with our producer Sean Beresford for a year tracking and mixing. That was Rich Girls year one.

I wrote the second EP, Fiver, while I was living in London this spring. I would send the demos to the guys and then we’d rehearse when we were together. It was so much easier having a band to bring the sound to life. The recording went much, much quicker this time.

Our craziest gig ever was….

Our second show ever was Noise Pop so we sort of went from zero to hero in terms of venues.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

1977 Berlin.

Growing up, at home we listened to…..

West coast radio pop.

What tunes are on heavy rotation for you…

The Coathangers. Teen. Doris Duke.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?

I dunno. Bring Iggy out of retirement.

If you could give any advice to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band, what’s your advice?

Don’t get too good.

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

The internet.

The one thing we want you to remember while you’re listening to us…

How awesome is reverb? Very awesome.

Listen to some Music….
