Angry Angles have often been referred to as Jay Reatard’s great lost band. Bouncing around the early 2000s, the rotating line up also featured bassist and co-founder of Reatard’s Shattered Records, Alix Brown, and drummers Ryan Rousseau and Paul Artigues and were considered to be a crucial juncture in the stellar career of the Memphis wild man.
Despite being lauded as the project set to shoot Jay Reatard into the stratosphere, the band caved in on itself leaving behind nothing more than a mish-mash of singles.
In 2016, recognising the importance of these songs, damn killer songs I might add, Memphis stalwarts Goner Records -co-head of Goner is Zac Ives, member of Reatard’s Final Solutions- released a 17-track compendium of these lost gems and aren’t we damn glad that they did!
One of these tracks is the savage ‘Apparent-Transparent’, two-minutes and two-seconds of pure headfuckery. Now that church is over for another holy day, and that lull between second after Sunday second just drags and drags and drags, let us enjoy some Reatard mayhem. Guilt free.
