Album of the Week: SOAKIE – S/T

Holy shit, this is the most exhausting and rewarding 15 minutes you’ll spend with a record this year. On their debut album, Melbourne-NYC punks Soakie absolutely annihilate anything in their path with 7 tracks of blistering, enraged, volatile punk rock.

Vocalist Summer Perlow wails and snarls over a relentless hardcore assault in the vein of first-wave anarcho-punks like Crass, and Flux of Pink Indians, mixed with more recent bands like Macho Boys or The Voids. One thing is for sure, there is nothing subtle about any of these tracks.

Themes like abuse of power, toxic masculinity, and crony capitalism are razed and admonished in a way that will get your blood pumping. It’s 2020, the world is watching, wringing our collective hands and Soakie is here to taser us back to life.

Out on La Vida Es Un Mus Discos.
