Album of the Week: CATHEDRALE – “Facing Death”

Cathedrale are from Toulouse, in the south-west of France and “Facing Death” is their second full-length release.

Landing somewhere between post punk, no wave, and garage pop, the new record has a slightly different vibe than their 2017 debut “Total Rift“. The songs here run in the same crowd as the “tough pop/soft punk” sound of a band like Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and the catchy art punk of Parquet Courts. There is also a hint of the poppier side of The Cure, particularly in Jules Maison’s vocals.

The album was recorded in Toulouse at the Swamp Land analog studio by Lo Spider (Dead ghosts, Catholic Spray, Magnetix, The Spits, etc.) The cover was done by French artist Matthieu FreakCity.

“Facing Death” is released via Howlin Banana Records.

Maxime Costa: drums
Robin Titube: Guitar
Félix Paineau: Bass
Jules Maison: Guitar, voices
