If I knew nothing else of Maggie Rogers, I would know just by listening to this song that she has style. And to be honest, I don’t know much about her. I do know she is from rural Maryland and that she grew up listening to Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. Rogers began playing music at a very young age. She has put out two previous albums, the first is 2012’s The Echo and the second is Blood Ballet in 2014. Her sound has since evolved, much in part to her attending NYU and traveling to France to live abroad while studying. This is the first release by this artist since then and it totally captivates me in every meaning of the word. The song’s beat and flowing melody grabs hold of me and I don’t want to be anywhere else. Combining a folk-pop and a R&B sound, this song written about taking a hike through Alaska has me completely hooked.
