AAN-“I Don’t Need Love” Live on KEXP

AAN is a Portland band that’s steadily gaining a higher profile and is even scheduled to play the big Treefort Musicfest in Boise on March 26 in support of their newest album, Dada Distractions. “I Don’t Need Love” from the band’s previous album, Amor Ad Nauseum, is a beguiling number about the safety and frustration of general love avoidance. Sample lyric: “ I think you need it, you tell yourself that it’s alright, scared to believe it, oh I’d rather curl up and die…” Bud Wilson’s vocals on this performance from Live on KEXP are a little angrier than the studio version but his quivering desperation comes through, just the same. Loads of spacey keys and guitar fuzz courtesy of Gabriel Nardin and Bud Wilson along Travis Leipzig’s nimble bass grooves and Dana Valatka’s jazz beats create a stirring, seductive tune that makes loneliness downright sexy!
