It’s hard to believe that Calliope is a current active band from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Upon my first listen, I was certain they were from progressive rock’s heyday of the 1970s. That’s not to say the band is archaic. It’s just that the stoner rock sub-genre was at it’s creative peak during those years and Calliope celebrates it with every fiber of their being.
Teeth rattling percussion, 2000 foot walls of guitar, soul shattering bass, sinister vocals and the dark swirl of organ. All things Calliope utilize when making creating their music. Of course there’s subtle nods to Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but also hints of The Doors and Blood Rock. With that said, the broad scope of influences aren’t played for nostalgia. Make no mistake: Calliope is a band of the 21st century, and just might be the most satisfying in their respective genre.
Calliope have signified their triumphant return with their new single from Romanus Records. Sea of Red/Brujo are 2 tracks of underworld fury. Once again channeling the black magic of their influences and their love of all things heavy.
Without further ado, 50thirdand3rd is proud to announce the world debut of Sea of Red/Brujo for your listening pleasure!

Being this is a release from Romanus Records, you already know they’re pulling out all the stops with their vinyl variants. Of course there will be series of random colors, a splatter, as well as a limited edition ‘one-off’ variant. It wouldn’t be a Romanus release if there wasn’t an extremely rare variant made with the collector in mind. On this time around there will be a multi-colored sand filled variant! 2 colors of sand flow between 2 chambers between each side of the record! A perfect limited edition collector’s piece that pairs well with the multi-layered tracks.
Sea of Red/Brujo will be available exclusively through the Romanus Records store on March 18th 2017. Quantities are limited so don’t miss out!
