The Beatles‘ first comic movie A Hard Day’s Night inspired clever American moviemakers,
with dollar signs in their eyes, to start a frisky teenage TV show “about an imaginary band
that wanted to be The Beatles, but that was never successful”
back in 1965 starring four
good-looking and catchy signing boys called THE MONKEES. Although their songwriting
and musical participation was minimal the band released a series of top pop singles and successful albums. They sold more than 75 million records. Legend goes John Lennon once claimed he was a fan. Their second 45 I’M A BELIEVER (written by Neil Diamond) is probably their biggest and best known hit ever. It reached the number one seat of the British singles charts on 19 January 1967 – yes, fifty years ago. C’mon sing along, you know the words…
