Video Of The Day – In Memory Of A Genuine Legend… JOE STRUMMER

22 December 2016

Joe Strummer died, only 50, on 22 December 2002. A genuine legend. A tremendously gifted and committed musician and a social human being with his heart and soul on the right place.
I chose his gripping Bob Marley cover to commemorate the passing of this caring man and special personality for a specific reason. If he would have been still alive today he would have definitely protested in sharp words and with captivating music against this year’s fall of human solidarity and rise of egoism as we know it. His honest and outspoken voice is sadly missed…

Old pirates, yes, they rob I,
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit

But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly

Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy
‘Cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look
Some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the book

Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Redemption songs

Old pirates, yes, they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit

How long shall they kill our prophets
While we stand aside and look
Some say it’s just a part of it
We’ve got to fulfill the book

So won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom
‘Cause all I ever had
These songs of freedom
‘Cause all I ever had
Redemption songs
These songs of freedom
These songs of freedom
