Video Of The Day ! ‘1’ – The Ballad Of John & Yoko

‘1’ – Number one in US and UK 15 years ago – November 19, 2000

The Beatles split up in 1970 – 45 years ago – but millions of Fab Four records were/will be sold after the break-up. All kinds of compilations, live recordings, rarities albums etc… appeared afterwards and new recycled ones will definitely follow. The world will never get tired of those Liverpool Pop Geniuses. The major part of their songs never age, never will, because every new generation picks them up, loves them and sings them. ‘1’ contained features 27 number one hits and sold 31 million copies worldwide so far.

It was the best-selling album of the first decade of the 21st century in the US. Hard to choose one as video of the day? Actually not. The Ballad of John and Yoko was always one of my absolute favorites (not a 100% Beatles song as only John & Paul played on it). The story of two rebellious lovers trying to marry somewhere & coming up for peace Vs an uncomprehending world. A song with a great rock drive, great swagger, great rhymes, cool backing vocals by Macca and these immortal lines…

Christ you know it ain’t easy / You know how hard it can be /
The way things are going / They’re going to crucify me…
