TELEX – “We are all getting old” – Record of the Day

Belgian synth pop pioneers from the late 1970’s and early 80’s, this is the video for Telex smash hit “We are all all getting old.” I can’t confirm it charted, but it’s certified platinum in my house. It’s from their 1980 album Neurovision. In 1980 Telex entered the Eurovision contest intent on coming in dead last. They actually came in second to last. They peformed a song called “Euro-Vision” which was a song with deliberately banal lyrics about the contest itself. They covered Plastic Bertrand. They worked with Sparks. They scored a worldwide dance hit with “Moskow Diskow“, which to my ears is in part the template for much of Daft Punk’s catalog, particularly if you add some electro, some Chicago House, and some Giorgio Moroder into the mix. Telex sound and attitude seem like a pretty influential component. Sadly, Telex member Marc Moulin passed away in 2008.
