SONNY & CHER ! No 1 in US – 50 Years Ago…

I know, I’m a romantic fool at times and yes, I like a lot of those vibrant sixties pop songs. Just like millions of us, young and old, I guess. ‘I Got You Babe’ is one of them. Cherilyn Sarkisian aka Cher and Salvatore Phillip Bono aka Sonny met in Los Angeles in 1962 and scored several mega hits as a pair (The Beat Goes On / Little Man / Baby Don’t Go / also many covers…) but ‘I Got You Babe‘, written by the late Sonny and ‘Wall Of Sound’ expert Phil Spector, was their biggest one and covered by many. It sold more than one million copies worldwide and topped the US charts on August 14, 1965 – 50 years ago today – and stayed there for three weeks. Now, let’s put some flowers in our hair and sing to our beloved one…
