Sonic Paradise At DOUR FESTIVAL In BELGIUM…

DOUR FESTIVAL, BELGIUM – 12/15 July 2017

Since the first edition way back in 1989 DOUR FESTIVAL grew out to be one of the coolest and greatest festivals in Europe. Four days (12-15 July) of musical extravaganza with a very varied programming of many different genres in the beautifully rural city of Dour in the French part of Belgium, 2 miles away from France. Punk, reggae, rap, house, hip-hop, rock, world music and just about any noise one can produce with instruments, with or without vocals. Great location, great vibe, great artists. One negative point: as a student you need to do a job all summer long or rob a bank to pay all costs (ticket, camping, food & drinks). Unfortunately, rock festivals are (for years now) about business, about making (too much) profit by corporate organizations with one goal: give me your money! ALL your money! I’m sure thousands of youngsters can’t afford festivals just because it’s too damn expensive. Giant shame! Me, myself and I checked in for two of the four days (I swear it’s harder than an arduous mountain stage in the Tour Of France when you’re older than 35). And here are the seven stellar acts that made me go dancing, jumping, screaming, shouting and getting very tired, acceptably drunk, totally voiceless and completely satisfied at the end of my 48-hour journey. Get ready, here we go, here comes some inflammable, sonic rapture…

1/ THE KILLS
Website – Facebook
Newest album: Ash & Ice

After 15 years the Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin of sultry blues rock are still a red-hot engine with alluring icon Alison Mosshart on a steamy roll and Jamie Hince demonstrating
his impressive craft of burning hooks and striking riffs. The crowd went bananas! Winner!

Serge & Jane…

Vibrant sensuality & coolness…

We will, we will rock you…

2/ THE MOONLANDINGZ
Facebook – Twitter
Boiling debut album: Interplanetary Class Classics

Electro-disco-punk gang out of Sheffield, UK. A spicy groove machine with artistic pariah Lias Saudi as the volcanic frontman with several personas: Johnny Rocket, Fat White Family Face, frenzied performer, dope explorer, controversial songwriter and fulltime outsider. This time he looked like an eccentric reincarnation of Edith Piaf, the late legendary French chansonnier. Igneous, intoxicating, impressive and… non, Lias ne regrette rien…

‘Bonjour, Dour’

Men on the moon…

The reincarnation of Lias Saudi…

3/ COCAINE PISS
Facebook – Bandcamp
Brand new EP: Piñacolalove

Smashing molotov cocktail uppercuts from Liege, Belgium. As usual sensational frontgirl Aurélie Poppins jumped into the crowd for a clamorous meet and greet with the hooked
fans. Dynamite stuff for (only) 25 minutes! Less is so much more with these desperadoes.

Here she comes…

Here she is…

Power to the people…

4/ IDLES
Facebook – Website
Newest album: Brutalism

Fierce post punk havoc from Bristol, UK. Frank-blunt-sharp and in your face tumult with
a glorious show time grin mostly provided by highly fueled and insanely entertaining
guitarist Mark Bowen. It was mosh pit time! It was go mad time! It was adrenalin time!

Arrrggghhhhhhh…

Please to meet you, hope you guess my name…

He’s one of us now…

5/ TEMPLES
Website – Facebook
Newest album: Volcano

Psychedelic firework pop, with a retro touch, at its very best. Flamboyant, shimmy and electrifying ecstasy. Never thought (I saw them 4 times before) Temples would cause
moshing excitement among the heated crowd. Wham Bam! Memorable performance!

Charismatic presence…

Glamtastic triumph…

Glittering euphoria…

6/ WWWATER
Facebook – Twitter

Electro hip hop soul driven by the sensational voice of the gorgeous and talented
Charlotte Adigéry. Vibey, dancey, groovy. Shiny young pearl with a bright future.

Spectacular vox…

Wwwow factor…

7/ LE PRINCE HARRY
Facebook – Bandcamp

Electro punk with a dark edge, a flaming flow and tons of intensity. This broiling 2-piece made me think of 80s duo Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. A synth dominated avalanche generating contagious crackers you’re uncontrollable body just can’t resist! Hell yeah…

Hit Hit Hit…

Peek-A-Boo…

Mystery princess…
