Sometimes all you have to do is make a leap of faith.....Meet, Danielle Woodrow

Sunday morning folk time brings us the 1st release off the debut album “Turning” from Danielle Woodrow. Sweet voice, love the lyrics to this song “Leap Of Faith” , full of hope , yet realistic.There is a story behind the making of “Turning” so we will let Danielle tell that story….

I didn’t set out to make an album. I didn’t even know where I was going or what I’d be doing when I decided to quit my job, potentially ending a career I’d spent over a decade building. What I knew was that I could no longer hear myself above the din of everyday life.

So in August of 2011 I embarked on a year-long odyssey. My first stop was the bucolic Methow Valley in Washington state. It was there, in a tiny cabin known as “The Owl’s Nest,” that I dusted off my college guitar. Back in school, I’d always played other people’s music, but here in this quiet refuge, I felt compelled to write my own. Over the course of a month I composed a handful of songs, which were recorded live at a local musician’s home studio, mostly so I wouldn’t forget them.

My year progressed in a circuitous fashion. I travelled far. I retreated close. I focused on my footing. Music accompanied me as my journal and source of sanity as I moved through experiences: some magical, some humbling. Along the way I continued to record song sketches and, by the end of my journey, I found myself with a collection: a Record of my year. (from Danielle Woodrow.com)

I knew I was going to be a singer…
Playing music was a childhood dream deferred. I had no clue I was going to pick up my guitar again when I did…but as soon as I did I knew I was going to play again.

My craziest gig ever was….
When I was 19 years old, my university coffee shop mistakenly double booked my acoustic duo with the state’s top WNBA basketball star’s book signing. We ended up singing Bruce Springsteen songs at her mother’s request while the long line of aspiring bball players’ mothers sang along.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….
Laurel Canyon in 1968. Or maybe Vienna in the late 18th century.

Growing up ,at home I listened to…..
My dad listened to classical music and showtunes. My mother loved the Beatles, and had a good folk and pop vinyl collection.

What Albums are on heavy rotation for you…
At the moment I’m enjoying Ray LaMontagne’s new album. I’m also a big Brandi Carlile fan and find myself listening to everything she does. When it comes to albums I still reach for the classics a lot.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?
Tom Petty! Just so I could hang out with him.

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,
Running the television arm of director Justin Lin’s production company. In fact, that’s where you will often find me.

The one thing I want you to remember while your listening to me:
This album was written during a yearlong travel sabbatical after quitting my executive job. The songs were written in mountain cabins and jungle huts and other introspective-friendly locations.
