Review: Itchy Teeth

Itchy TeethItchy Teeth have released their self-titled album via Fourtwenty Records. This album is an alt-pop, power punk kind of sound. It’s first single “Solid Gold Tooth” is a mellow tune, that induces a sort of escapism and loss. The songs are upbeat and quirky, reminding me a little of Weezer. The songs catchy and charged with eagerness, like in the second track “Red Light Mary”. Shredding guitars and a good beat introduce the third song, “Original Fool”. There is a nostalgic feeling in the sound of “Silhouette”, sounds from long ago music and energy. I am thinking Cars… maybe. Whatever it is, the band has a sound true to itself and a spirit that runs strong in every song throughout the album, an album they recorded completely live and in only one day at a bunker inside Germany. Itchy Teeth is ten songs in all, jam-packed with changing tempos and moods, chock full of emotion, adventure and insurgence. The album at its core is a guitar-pop driven sound, influenced and created to hang in there with albums from their favorites, such as Jonathan Richman, Modern Lovers and The Flaming Lips. icthypiccItchy Teeth is out of London, but that is not exactly where you will find them. The band has decided to tour around Europe, head for some adventure and hey why not, live out of their car.
“The songs were all new, the band wanted to capture that thrill of playing a new song together. There are a few first-takes left in there and there are some strange notes and noises, those are our favorite kinds of records. There are guitar freakouts, songs about the end of the world- it’s our starting place, to make the record that is us, now.”
