Remembering Cool – Phil Lynott – Aug. 1949 – Jan. 1986

On the very day I hear that Phil Everly had passed away, I was reminded that it was 27 years ago that another Phil – Phil Lynott died at the crazy young age of 35.

In 1976 I remember my father coming home with a copy of Thin Lizzy’s masterpiece Jailbreak. I wasn’t sure I knew what “cool” was at that point in my life, but I certainly discovered “cool” listening to that record – over, and over, and over, and over again. It wasn’t long after that I was growing my hair and wearing a black leather jacket.

Thin Lizzy were a huge influence on me (music and fashion) and I regret that I never did manage to see them live.

RIP Phil.

Domestic now, but spent early to late 80s playing drums in a hair metal band in Toronto. Since then I've lost the hair and have found new ways to scratch the rock and roll itch.
