Violet Nox is a Boston-based experimental noise band combining elements of electronica,post-punk and psychedelia to create an abstract yet mellifluous tapestry of tension & release. In November 2016 they release their first official single, “Snow King” and its accompanying video. The trio — Dez DeCarlo (formerly Shiva Speedway and many other music projects) – guitar and vocals,Erik Jackson – electronic beats, and Karen Zanes (The Freeways) -guitar and vocals — came together in the fall of 2015 after having met and worked together briey on a previous experimental project. Together with original member John Bragg (Ruby Rose Fox), also on guitar, they released a number of low-key experimental recordings to Soundcloud. Concurrently, they released a video for one of these early recordings, “Time to Get Lost,” with visuals and editing by band member Zanes.
Of late, The Nox has been joined by Kris Thompson (The Prefab Messiahs, Bobb Trimble, Twilight Tipi, Magic Shoppe) on synth. His use of the Kaosillator pad has added further interesting textures to both “Snow King” and live sets. The band plays regularly throughout the Boston/Cambridge area and soon, beyond. Because of their ability to blend genres, they feel equally at home among the noise, electronic and psych communities. Going forward, the band looks toward continued exploration, experimentation and expansion through their recordings, live sets and visuals.
