Record of the Day: “Simple Joys” by The Brainstems

The Brainstems formed as a cover band, playing shows at parties for a St. Louis radio station. While they’ve moved on to originals, their Ty Segall influence is still certainly understood. The detached vocal style, and fuzzed out guitars leave the band somewhere between Ty and the Parquet Courts. The Brianstems ooze cool. “Simple Joys,” off their debut album No Place Else, is a perfect sample of The Brainstem’s physical punk-rock.
