Record of the Day…Detroit (I’m So Glad I Stayed) by Andre Williams

The legendary Andre Williams will be 80 this year and what hasn’t he done?

Born in Alabama, he started his musical career in Detroit in the 50s and as it is, he’s responsible for some of the earliest “rap” recorded.

As a songwriter, producer and singer he’s had a number of hits on the Billboard charts, he’s written hits for Stevie Wonder, Ike and Tina Turner, Parliament and he’s released a number of legendary records.

Although Mr. Williams has struggled with addiction over the years, he’s been clean for while now and releasing some of his strongest material in years.

His latest record – I Wanna Go Back To Detroit City, will be released on Bloodshot Record in June and features Dennis Coffey, Matthew Smith from Outrageous Cherry and Dan Kroha from The Gories.

Domestic now, but spent early to late 80s playing drums in a hair metal band in Toronto. Since then I've lost the hair and have found new ways to scratch the rock and roll itch.
