Surfing the web last night, I came by this article by the Washington Post Noise and sweat and Marx and Chipotle — D.C.’s Priests redefine punk for 2014 . Needless to say the article had me intrigued, along with the song that was posted. After a little more digging I found another track that completely hit home for me. The song is called “Doctor” and is reminiscent, to me, of the intensity of Fugazi mixed with the sonic approach of Sonic Youth. The bass provides the musical driving force while the guitar provides a chaotic atmosphere in the verses and a catchy riff through the choruses. Over the music, singer Katie Greer, gives a vocal performance that is, for lack of better words, completely real. There is no striving to hit the perfect note or attempts to strike pitch perfect harmonies. Rather she sings every last word with nothing but sincere conviction and attitude, yet with a delivery that is completely clear (diction, that is). This is a fresh breath of air, all punk, and no bullshit. And, of course, the band is on Don Giovanni records, who also house another one of my favorite modern punk bands, Screaming Females. I’ll have to peruse their catalogue of artists more often. Anyways, for your listening pleasure, here’s Doctor by Priests. Their new album is coming out June 3rd, so be on the look out for it! I know I’ll be picking up a copy. You can also catch them on tour! Below is a link to their site, as well as their band camp. Enjoy!
