… the release of ‘Electric Ladyland’ the third and final album of The Jimi Hendrix Experience


* it was a double album
* it topped the Billboard 200 album chart for two weeks in November 1968
* the album features the 15 minute blues jam ‘Voodoo Chile’
* that song evolved from ‘Catfish Blues’, a song which Hendrix performed regularly during 1967 and early 1968. It was a homage to Muddy Waters, made up of a medley of verses based on Waters’ songs, including ‘Rollin’ Stone’, ‘Still a Fool’ and ‘Rollin’ and Tumblin’
* the album also features Jimi’s reworking of the Bob Dylan classic ‘All Along the Watchtower’
* the living legend Tony Glover in Rolling Stone on November 9, 1968: “Hendrix is amazing, and I hope he gets to the moon first. If he keeps up the way he’s going here, he will” …
