No 1 Single in US – 50 Years Ago Today… SUNSHINE SUPERMAN by DONOVAN

‘Sunshine Superman’ by DONOVAN

Way back in the golden sixties British journalists loved to shout loudly about their own Bob Dylan. It was all about a sharp media competition between the UK and the US. In my opinion nobody can touch the genius, the voice and the work of Robert Zimmerman. On the other hand in the shadow of the master Scotland born (May 10, 1946) pop folk hippie DONOVAN created some damn fine music and scored a string of sparkling, timeless hits, both sides of
the Atlantic. SUNSHINE SUPERMAN was probably his finest and most famous moment. The song hit the top of the American singles chart 50 years ago today – 3 September 1966. I guess the British music press must have gone berserk. That was yesterday, this very day Donovan will be honoured for that achievement by Los Angeles City Hall and tomorrow (Sept 4th)
he starts a short Sunshine Superman Tour in Northern America. Yes, full circle. Glorious.
Here’s the sunny diamond…
