A Must Listen to Band for 2015 ……Meet The Rizzos

Starting the week off with The Rizzos who hang with our friends at King Pizza Records. Very cool garage, fuzz, rock n roll. These tunes are going to make you wanna get moving, I like this band, the vocals fit well with the music which doesn’t really remind me of any one artist. Has a garage meets the modern day kind of vibe , and I will have to add The Rizzos to any mixtape that I’ll be making in 2015. This is a band that you should start getting to know today. Catchy , cool stuff, give a listen, tell your friends about The Rizzos and check out the other bands of King Pizza Records , which is here to remind us all that the East Coast has plenty of great new bands for kids to tune into..

Hi our name is….

The Rizzos

People say we sound like…..
Punk rock zombie prom (with feelings)

We are…..
Meggy Betty Justy and Joshy

We are originally from…..

The 90s. Also, various parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??
KING PIZZA RECORDS and Grease. Heartache and friendship. Sleep deprivation. Twitter.

The first time we all decided to get together and make some music…
Betty and Meggy started the project as a two piece and then were like “I wonder if someone would want to play the bass with us” and someone did – Justy. He came in, changed the name of the band, and laid down some sweet sweet bass. Then Joshy was like “bros, I love you, please please let me be in your band” and we were like “you’re making us blush. Maybe.” but he was PERSISTENT we tell you and finally we conceded and he like…makes the sound full. So maybe he was right.

Books we recommend …
Justin: I’m in the middle of reading For Whom the Bell Tolls and it’s pretty good
Megan: HP 4EVA
Bettina: Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins and The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka which is technically a short story (I think) but it counts.
Josh: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz.

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the album ready?

No. It’s top secret.

But actually, we write really collaboratively. Some songs have started with a bassline and built up around there, sometimes from something someone said at practice, and other times someone may bring in an almost complete song and we all fill it out.

Our craziest gig ever was….

Justin: Rock Camp. Playing for kids is nuts.

Megan: Agreed. I wanna say pizza fest but we didn’t play that together, even though we all played and ran it together.
Bettina: I really loved playing the winter sweatier party. Our friends had bubbles and balloons and it was a big ol party.

If you could pick any time to travel back to for music, where would you go and what year would it be….

Justin: The Big Bang. Either that or forward to the future to listen to our greatest hits. Kind of like what happened to Chuck Berry in Back to the Future or what Marty did with the sports almanac in Back To The Future 2.

Bettina: Bros. 75 or 57.

Josh: I think I’ll stay in the present, thanks.

Growing up ,at home we listened to…..

Justin: Reel big fish and radiohead.
Josh: A lot of metal
Megan: I don’t think I’ve grown up but the most formative years, Deer Tick.
Bettina: Led Zeppelin and Hanson (there’s a story behind that). Nirvana (to counteract the Hanson).

What tunes are on heavy rotation for you…

Justin: Ronson by Grass Is Green
Megan: Tweens by Tweens
Josh: In Humor and Sadness by 68
Bettina: Nancy, Tweens, Slothrust, The Mad Doctors…lots of King Pizza bands.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be and why?

Justin: Pile or Krillllll.

Megan: Those Darlins. Tweens.

Bettina: Slothrust.

Josh: Melvins, even though it wouldn’t make any sense.

If you could give any advice to the kids who are just picking up their 1st guitars or drum sets and want to be in a rock n roll band , what’s your advice?

Justin: Get some friends together and do it. It’s the best. You won’t regret it.

Josh: The best advice you’ll ever get is just to do it. Don’t wait to get better at your instruments or have amazing songs. Get together and suck at it and have fun and eventually you’ll hit your stride.

Bettina: Go to live shows and watch the people you admire play. Watch them really carefully and figure out what you like and don’t like and what you want to emulate. Then go home and try it out. Put your own spin on it and practice.

When you are touring and have some time off , where could we find you..

Megan: What is time off!?

Josh: Sleeping

Megan: Yeah right, Josh. More like pooping.

Bettina: Diners, please. I just had an image of us touring in a van like in Little Miss Sunshine and us all having to run to start it and then we go to a diner and eat waffles and ice cream. No one dies.

The one thing we want you to remember while you’re listening to us….
Justin: We love you
Josh: Justin might love you, but I do not.
Bettina: No, we all love you.

Our plans for 2015…..

King Pizza Records

sweet tunes…
