As we get ready to close out the month of September, today we meet, The Velveteers. This is a band in the coolest tradition of The Kills. I dig two people just making the most glorious noise they can , for all of us to jam to. Watch these videos and keep tuned in to 50thirdand3rd as soon as The Velveteers have an Album ready, guaranteed it’ll be posted up for all of our listening pleasure. I like the blues based vibe running throughout these songs, without a doubt a band to keep close tabs on .

Hi our name is….

The Velveteers

our sound is……

The Velveteers: Gritty rock

We are from…….

The Velveteers: Denver, Colorado

Who are some that have an influence on you

The Velveteers: Jack White, Led Zeppelin, The Kills, Elvis Presley, Queens of The Stone Age, Nirvana, The Beatles, Deap Vally, Royal Trux, and Rose Hill Drive.

How old were all of you when you started to play and who plays what in the band

Demi Demitro: I’ve been singing ever since I could talk. I started playing guitar when I was 17 and I’m 18 now. My drummer has been playing since he was 9.

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the songs out

Demi Demitro: There isn’t a process. It just happens. I do give myself deadlines though. Sometimes the longer something lingers the less creative it becomes.

what are some of the challenges you face as a musician and how have you overcome those challenges

The Velveteers: Being young a lot of people don’t take us seriously at first. One time we almost got kicked out of our own show because we weren’t old enough to even be there. Sometimes venues don’t want to book us because they think we are just some teenage punks. But after we play those assumptions are crushed.

1st concert you went to and age....

Demi Demitro: Thats the hardest question to answer. I honestly have no idea! It obviously wasn’t very memorable or else i’d remember.

coolest band tshirt you ever bought…

The Velveteers: We don’t wear band t shirts.

some albums that you listen to the most….

Demi Demitro: I listen to a lot of Elvis Presley records and I’ve been listening to “Like Clockwork” by Queens of the Stone Age.

If you could open for any Band right now who would that be …

The Velveteers: It would be awesome to open for Rival Sons or Queens of the Stone Age.

My youngest son is 13 and in a Band, what advice would you offer him...

The Velveteers: Once you find something that fires you up, Work really really hard. Pursue it as much as you can. Don’t let stupid people tell you that you can’t do something.

your thoughts on the state of music in 2015…..

Demi Demitro: I think its really awesome how almost everybody is listening to vinyl nowadays. There aren’t many mainstream artists I’m enamored with but my biggest suggestion to people is to go to local shows. You’ll be surprised what talent is lurking in your own town.

Our plans for the rest of 2015/2016…..

The Velveteers: We have a lot of really exciting things in the work right now.

Theres not to much we can say about that, but just be patient with us. For the rest of fall we are playing a lot of local shows in Denver and have some really cool things we are planning for spring.

  • Great fucking band. I’ve seen them live around Denver. They are defiantly a band to keep an eye on, I have a feeling they are gonna get really big soon.
