Indie Rock from St Paul Minneapolis, Meet – Edger

edger

as we head into another weekend, time to play some cool indie rock while we meet the band , Edger. I think I would add Weezer to the list of Bands that they remind you of, fun stuff…Give a listen to Edger and once the EP goes live next week make sure you give a listen to the rest of the songs from “Rudiments EP” until then groove on these tunes…

from their Bio:
Edger is a rock ‘n’ roll trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota featuring Justin Lawson (guitar/vocals), Nate Bartley (drums), and Scott Hefte (bass). Their debut is loud, energetic, and catchy with shades of Superchunk, The Thermals, Television, Sleater-Kinney, and Spoon

Meet The Band

Hi our name is…

EDGER

People say we sound like…

Justin Lawson: I’ve heard Superchunk a couple times and recently The Wrens. Those were the comparisons I was happy to hear, anyway.

We are..

Justin Lawson, Nate Bartley, and Scott Hefte.

We are from…

Minneapolis.

Who are some bands that have an influence on you?

Justin: The Thermals, Future of the Left, Catbath, Television, The Rank Strangers, Spoon. Lately I’ve mostly been listening to Sleater-Kinney, their latest record is so awesome.

How old were all of you when you started to play and who plays what in the band?

Justin Lawson 14 guitar, Nate Bartley 14 drums, Scott Hefte 25 bass.

Can you tell us about the process you use, from writing the songs all the way through getting the songs out?

Justin: Most of the time I record a demo and send it to Scott and Nate so we can hit the ground running in practice. From there, any arrangement adjustments that need to be made usually become apparent through practice. We are always happy to make a song shorter, and I’m pretty quick to abandon a song if it’s not working.

What are some of the challenges you face as musicians and how have you overcome those challenges?

Justin: Sound guys telling me to turn my amp down. I overcome it by not turning my amp down.

1st rock concert you went to and age…

Justin: The Violent Femmes, 15.

Coolest band t-shirt you ever bought…

Justin: I bought an extra-large Sunny Day Real Estate t-shirt (the design from the “diary” record cover with the fisher-price people) when they had their first reunion tour. I wore that shirt until it fell apart. It looked like I was wearing pajamas but I wish I still had it.

The most insane concert you ever went to or were a part of…

Justin: Arcade Fire at First Avenue (in Minneapolis) right after they blew up was pretty insane. I went to that show thinking they were okay and left thinking they where the best band ever.

If you could open for any band right now, who would that be and why?

Justin: The Rolling Stones, because that would be the best story and you said any band.

My youngest son is 13 and in a band. What advice would you offer him?

Justin: Don’t worry, if you really just want to play music you can always do that. If you want to make money doing it, I can’t really help.

Your thoughts on the state of rock ‘n’ roll in 2015…

Justin: There’s always new music to get excited about and the popularity of vinyl seems like a good sign. I’d be surprised if a band as good and loud as Nirvana is likely to be the most popular band in the world anytime soon but who knows.

Our plans for 2015…

Justin: Release our ep, put some good shows together, and I’d like to eat less sugar.

listen to some cool tunes…

releases 10 June 2015
