Over the past year, I have gotten to know fellow local musician Charlie Law through open mic nights and his own performances held in the Kingston-upon-Thames area in Greater London. I have always been impressed with his enthusiasm and professionalism during his performances. A few months ago, I reviewed some of the fantastic recordings off of his EP entitled The River in Her. Now, Charlie’s characteristic folk style takes a contemplative turn with his new single Who Made Heaven, which will officially be released on the 9th of December through new folk label The Davenport Collection.
The song’s lyrics weave a theme of religious and political strife with falling in love into a melody of a beautiful, unhurried guitar arrangement and measured vocal. Charlie’s fans have already responded wholeheartedly to the single, with over 1000 plays on SoundCloud within one week of it being posted to Facebook. Friends, family and fans have remarked that it is ‘Such a beautiful statement wrapped in gorgeous melody’ and ‘One of the best songs I’ve heard in years’. The single is certainly poignant with a powerful message, and I commend Charlie for being bold with his choice in writing in a new and different direction. With the music scene constantly changing, it’s refreshing to hear new artists push the envelope and tackle difficult subjects with such grace. But don’t take my word for it, have a listen for yourself!
Charlie Law will be headlining the famous Proud venue in Camden Stables on Saturday 14th December for the Who Made Heaven single launch. He will take to the stage at 9:15 p.m. and it is FREE entry before 9 p.m. If you would like to attend, message your name to Charlie on Facebook beforehand as it is guestlist only!
This will truly be a great night so come on out and have a brilliant pre-Christmas evening with your friends watching one of London’s best new singer-songwriters live for free in the heart of Camden!
Who Made Heaven was recorded at The Mill, Suffolk and mastered by Christian Wright (mastered Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’, Blur, Gabrielle Aplin and Keane to his credits) at Abbey Road Studios. With the upcoming single and a spring tour already being booked, 2014 is sure to be a year of promise for Mr Charlie Law.
