Get On That Garage Surf Wave….Meet, The Rebel Set

rebel-set

After listening to ” How To Make A Monster” by The Rebel Set you’re going to start loving this whole Garage Surf scene coming out of Burger Records. The Rebel Set are taking some great stuff from the past and combining sounds to come out with something new. It’s fast, raw, and it screams youth and fun. They could be the Band in Bikini Beach if someone wanted to remake it. I grew up on The Ventures and The Beach Boys and have a cool selection of Jan and Dean on Vinyl, and I’m totally digging on these tunes.

Meet The Band….

Hi our name is

The Rebel Set!

And our sound might be best described as….

garage surf

We are…

Katey wilkins , organist extraordinaire !

Joe Zimmerman, guitarist

We are originally from…..

Phoenix AZ

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

Duane Eddy, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, the Ventures, The Drags, The Trashmen, The Trashwomen

The first time we met was…..

Katey – met the boys at a show when I was in a different band. I loved the hip shaking sound of the Rebel Set, and was delighted when they recruited me.

Jeff and I had met some time earlier at a party and discussed the possibility of playing together.

We knew we were going to be a Band when………

…..
We discovered our shared interest in riding in cramped vans and sleeping on floors.

Before starting the band we were employed as…….

Katey – Stirring and shaking cocktails with love.

Joe – I have worked primarily in the exciting field of hospital maintenance.

Our craziest gig ever was….

Katey – We played in an actual garage in Ventura once. The cops had shown up before we even got there, so when it was our turn to play, we had to close the garage door. Only about 15 people could fit in there besides us, so we had the best time with the select partygoers. Everyone lost it; the energy was incredible.
Joe – I’d say our craziest show would have to be the time in Vegas when one of our former bass players got into an argument with the sound guy mid show and the sound guy ended up throwing our bass amp across the stage.

The first song we wrote was…….

“………”

Teenage Killer

It’s about……
………

Teenage Killers

What tunes are you currently jamming to…

Katey – The new Man or Astroman, Jail Weddings
Joe- Honey LTD., Cult Babies, Massenger

What are some of the 1st songs you remember listening to that made you say, that’s what I want to do

Katey – The Rivieras, “California Sun”
Joe – I think I always knew this was what I want to do but I think Nirvana was what made me think I could do it.

When you’re touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

Katey – At the beach, if we are in a beachy area, or at the local tiki bar.
Joe – We try to hit up as many pinball arcades as we can.

The one thing we want you to remember while you’re listening to us

Katey – We have fun, and love what we do, so you can definitely hear it in our tracks. Shake it!!
