Just in time for your Sunday morning groove , a few cool tracks and a little Q & A with Private Island
For those unfamiliar with your bands history, can you tell us all how you all met up and decided to start a band ?
It was a warm summers day. Tommy (bassist) was picking flowers in the open field next to his fathers barn. “I need more power” he whispers to himself in French. Then all of a sudden, faster than the grizzly bear from the revenant and the dementors from Harry Potter combined.. BOOM. CRACK. THUNDER. LIGHTNING.. storm. Tommy, afraid for his life, hides underneath his trusty goat, Cameron (guitarist). Lightning strikes 2.73 feet away from Cameron and Tommy. And from the lightning bolt, Michelle (girl) emerges. Her glow was brighter than a cell phone screen at 3am. ‘Welcome to final Jeopardy, I will grant you one wish,’ Michelle exclaimed in a female version of Alec Baldwin’s voice. Tommy takes a quick sip from Cameron’s goat teat, before leaving his goat sanctuary to face the all powerful Michelle, 2.73 feet away. ‘Why the fuck do I only get one wish’, he yells into the roaring wind. ‘SILENCE!! Or I will shove your foot down your eye socket.’ She retorts.. but in Spanish. ‘You have 30 seconds, please state your wish in a question,’ she said, still in Spanish, over recently started Jeopardy music in the background. But Tommy didn’t need 30 seconds. Tommy, the lonely farm boy always knew what he wanted. ‘WHO WILL BE MY BEST FRIEND?!’ He asked the omnipotent Spanish Alex Baldwin Thunder Michelle. ‘I thought I was your best friend?’ Cried Cameron, teats pendulating in the wind, still 2.73 feet away. To be continued… In the next interview that asks how we started.
Who would you list as your musical influence?
We have a lot since there are six people in the band. We influence each other when we jam.
Whats the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started?
Refer back to first question.
What are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years.
Tour and make enough money to quit our regular jobs.
What are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?
There’s a lot but here’s a few
King Krule – 6 feet beneath the moon
Jungle – self titled
Marcus Marr and Chet Faker – Work ep
Caribou – Our Love
Fly Golden Eagle – Swagger
Rhye – Women
Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Multi Love
Childish Gambino – Kauai
And just starting Kanye – Life of Pablo
Do you see any real use for social media , or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?
For private island social media has been great for obvious reasons. Generally I think social media is a tool used the wrong way. It has a quantity over quality aspect to it when it comes to relationships. Social media should connect people but so far it has done the opposite. For my band it’s dope though.
Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off.
Oh we definitely do. Our bassist sends screen shots to our manager every time someone mentions his parts. We enjoy the feedback.
If you could tour anywhere in the world , where would you want to go.
Japan or Australia
Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life.
Those both seem kinda extreme. Right now music is my focus.
Any last thoughts for your fans?
A sincere thank you.
