Having grown up loving everything about British Invasion Music, let’s just say I love this EP. These guys aren’t quick to label their music, so you can judge for yourself what it is you want to call it. Me, I’ll call it good music… I also want to thank Strangeways for taking time out of a busy schedule to answer these questions.
Hi our name is Strangeways
And our sound might be best described as psychedelic, dreamy, indie rock? We’re actually not sure which genre we slip into in the norms of society. But we’re cool with that.
We are Simon Collier (Vocals), Alex Jenner (Drums), Kris Loughlin (Lead/Rhythm), Rick Howe (Lead/Rhythm) and Thom Castle (Bass).
We are originally from Stockport, just outside of Manchester.
The first time we met was varied. We all met each other at different times, some of us met in school/college, some us met through other mates. First time we all came together was in October last year though!
We knew we were going to be a Band when we decided to form a band. Jenner and Simon had been playing together for 4 years then invited Rick to jam, and Rick bought Kris in and then we recruited Thom.
Before starting the band we were employed as general dogsbodies! Still are ha!
The first song we wrote was What You Fancy, probably. It’s the first song we built as band and still one of our favourites to play.
It’s about a young, not cool lad who’s gone to the pub, all dressed up, and he see’s all the older ‘cool’ people having a proper night and he starts to day dream about what it’d be like to go out with them. Sought of sung from the perspective of the group.
What we are currently listening to is a lot of Temples! Love them. Toy, Tame Impala, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Peace, loads of others. There’s a lot of good music out there. As for unsigned, I’m currently listening to loads of The Boondock Hippy (Simon).
For fun we like to cut loose, foot loose and kick off our Sunday shoes.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us is enjoy yourself. We don’t know how to answer this haha.
Expect more tunes, more gigs, a proper EP, more psych, more indie, more solos, more Strangeways and big things from us in 2014.
