I’m riding this wave of garage rock madness all the way in to the shore , in what has been a busy week of putting up some bands that I truly dig the shit out of, I recently received this offer from Some Weird Sin Records to give all of you the chance to be the 1st ones to give a listen to Volunteer Dad’s new album, and that is an offer I can not pass up on, so I’m late for work but what the hell , rock n roll calls…..
from Some Weird Sin Records :
Adhering to the demands of a rabid fanbase, Volunteer Dad are making their Field of Dreams–like return to release their second album Hotel California Hotel on April 12. The last we heard from the Los Angeles duo of perennial obscurity and poverty was at the beginning of last year, when they released their debut album Fake British Accent. In the interim, members Alex Machock and Nate Rogers have been busy coaching Little League teams and hanging out at hardware stores. Skillfully, and with tremendous grace, they were coaxed out of hiding by Some Weird Sin Records via an offering of CheezIts® to contribute a track (“Mister”) to the recently released Some Weird Sin Vol. 1 compilation alongside actual musicians The Resonars, Wyatt Blair, and Boys Age. Those CheezIts were then baked into a pie, and plans to release this upcoming fulllength soon followed.Like its predecessor, Hotel California Hotel was literally recorded in a garage, and was written in between stuporous binges of listening to Guided By Voices. Other bands ethered into the rag of inspiration this time around include R.E.M., Ween, and Fleetwood Mac (see: the tracklisting). “We’re just pretending it’s the 90s, wishing it were the 70s, pissed it’s not the 60s,” says Machock, on the phone from the Lowe’s on Alameda. “And when your mom banishes you from her medicine cabinet, making music is the next logical step.”
