Video of the Day – ‘(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang’ by HEAVEN 17 – Highly Relevant Again…

Electro pop band HEAVEN 17 from Sheffield (UK) was formed in 1980 by synths junkies Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh (former members of electronic pioneers The Human League) and vocalist/frontman Glenn Gregory. Their critically acclaimed 1981 debut LP Penthouse and Pavement is a vivid dance pop classic with single (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang as prime highlight. The track criticised the then UK and US political leaders Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and President Ronald Reagan and was therefore banned on British public radio. Ironically enough the song is relevant again in 2016. Just replace the old politicians by some new crappy ones like Theresa May and Donald Trump
and we can do a protest dance again…

The reason why this cracker popped up in my mind again is quite simple. Last Tuesday
I saw the veterans play a truly red-hot set on an exceptional red-hot day at the 1st edition
of a New Wave/Electronic Festival in Belgium. Here’s an idea of their swinging set…

Original founders – Ware & Gregory – still lead the troops…
