If you take a few minutes and read this “Meet The Band” you will understand the sound of American Goon , it’s like The MC5 meet up with Skynyrd doing glam , I can’t recall anyone blasting like this , the debut track “Blood Eagle” will blow you away , it’s most excellent. LOVE IT!!!!
Meet – American Goon
1. For those unfamiliar with your bands history, can you tell us all how you all met up and decided to start a band?
I have written and recorded all material for American Goon thus far so I didn’t really need to meet up with anybody other than myself. I’m often late so it took longer than planned
2. Who would you list as your musical influence?
Anything real and visceral. Rolling Stones, Motörhead, James Brown, The Stooges, MC5, Alice Cooper, The Amboy Dukes, Roky Erickson, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, T Rex, New York Dolls, Led Zeppelin, Mark Lanegan, The Sonics, Eagles of Death Metal, Fat White Family, High on Fire, Nick Cave, The Band, Tom Waits, I could keep going on and on but I should probably stop.
3. whats the coolest thing that’s happened to you as a band since you started up?
Fat Elvis Records releasing my debut single, Blood Eagle. It feels great to be able to get some music out into the world! Also having Pol Abran of Branca Studio in Spain doing album artwork for me. I really love his artwork.
4. What are your hopes and dreams as a band for the next few years?
I want to keep releasing more songs as I can. This is not my main project so I’m content with putting out songs at whatever pace time will allow me. That being said, I want to put more music out. I am constantly writing and recording music so it’d be nice to get more out. I’d love to play some live shows as well but again, the time to put a band together and book shows is not there just yet. I will certainly work when I can outside of my other musical projects as they are all a hell of a great time!
5. what are some of your favorite albums from the past few years?
Some of my favorite albums – A lot of classics such as Let It Bleed and Exile on Main Street, Overkill, Lots of rock n roll, hard rock, metal, country, & blues. Albums of the past few years….I just bought some of Fat White Family’s albums and I’m really diggin those. Really real love Grinderman’s two albums. Bubblegum by Mark Lanegan is one of my all time favorite albums as well. Oh I just bought an album from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard after one of their shows. They’re amazing!
6. Do you see any real use for social media , or is it all just a pain in the ass to keep with?
Social media is a pain in the ass but it’s a necessary pain in the ass. At a certain level you can do the radiohead thing and go off social media, maybe even the Internet as a whole. That sounds awesome, but if I went off the internet I’d be a tree falling in the forest. For any smaller band, artist, etc. social media is a great tool to get out into the world, it’s still just a tool though. Like anything else, put yourself out there but don’t force it on people and hope for the best.
7. Do you pay attention to reviews or comments from people about your music or do you just turn that noise off?
I can’t help what people think. It’s nice to know if people dig it, but if they don’t then it may not be for them. At the end of the day, good or bad, it’s just noise that you have to tune out and do what you want to do.
8. If you could tour anywhere in the world , where would you want to go?
I’m currently in Spain on tour with my other band, Blackfoot Gypsies, and it’s killer! I would love to go to Australia, Brazil, and New Zealand, Ireland. Also Asia…anywhere in the world really. Why not Mars?
9. Can music save the mortal soul or is just a good backbeat to your life?
Rock n Roll is religion. You can choose how it affects you. It you let it, Rock N Roll can save your soul. It can also be just background noise. For me, I was put on this earth to play music.
10. Any last thoughts for your fans?
Thank you for your support. There is no point to what I’m doing without fans. Please look out for my debut 7″ single, Blood Eagle, out on limited edition vinyl via Fat Elvis Records in July. I hope to get more American Goon tunes out there soon. Until then, I will be doing much more work with my main band, Blackfoot Gypsies so come see us too out on the road and buy our albums! See ya’ll out there in the world!
The 7″ record will be available in late June/Early July and the B-Side is RoundaBlackout
