CARL BARÂT & THE JACKALS ! Bang Bang What A Glory Night …

‘Glory Days ‘ by Carl Barât & The Jackals !

Before the next rebirth of The Libertines actually takes off this summer Carl Barât just released a brand new album titled ‘Glory Days’. It’s vintage Barât grimness. He’s a punk rock warrior full of London swagger. A rock and roll junkie. Never a day without a guitar. The Clash, musically and spiritually, are never far away. After the first split with his blood brother Pete Doherty he formed The Dirty Pretty Things for two albums and a memorable hit ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’. Then in 2010 he scored his first, introspective, solo album. But his glory days are now. The British indie hero made his best work outside of The Libertines. The electrifying rhythms, the victorious chorus and the punky riffs of the title track set the template for a rousing 35-minute triumph. A steamy cocktail of indie-rocky-grungy-bluesy and garage material. Party time !

Yesterday (Saturday, February 28) Barât and his gang The Jackals, recruited over the internet and auditions at a south-east London boozer, came to make some noise in Brussels. He selected a clever, irresistible setlist with Libertines / Dirty Pretty Things / solo and Glory Days songs. A kind of celebration of his own career through many changes actually. The stage is his natural habitat. A place to rock rough and riotous, messy and boisterous. Full-throated roars only interrupted for two acoustic moments before a storming finale. Barât still gets along. Bang bang, what a glory night !
