Burger Boogaloo – Day 2

Pass 2

[Part 2 of Burger Boogaloo Day 1]

On day 2, we were some of the first few people up early enough to arrive at noon. The crowd yesterday started small and eventually got bigger, so we expected the same to happen throughout the day.

First up were Teenage Burritos

Fun, surfy girl group sound. Couldn’t help but move to their music!

Next, Gap Dream was scheduled, but due to lineup trouble, there was a surprise band: The Memories!

The Memories

The Memories

The Memories are another favorite of mine, so I was beyond psyched!

Kyle Handley

Kyle Handley

Not only are their song lyrics hilarious and clever, but the music is so catchy, it sticks with you. With songs ranging from goin’ down on someone to drawing a picture for someone that gives it back.

Rikky Rétarrdo

These Dream Pop Rockers are the guys behind Gnar Tapes and are also members of infinite other projects including: White Fang, Boom, Free Weed, etc.

Chris Scott

Chris Scott

Big ups to Chris Scott who you will later see had to play 3 sets that day!

Suddenly, Gap Dream Gabe and Bobby come and join The Memories on stage!

They played some psychedelic jams for about 10 mins, why not? They had 3 guitars and 2 bass players!

Gabe mentioned this was a new project and they’re calling it Wish. I can see this collaboration being something very extraordinary.

Next was Guantanamo Baywatch!

Guantanamo Baywatch

Surfy funky squealing and so much fun you can’t help but snorkle dance and ride their musical wave!

Chevelle

Chevelle

Chevelle is fun to watch and is a good bassist.

Jason and Chevelle

Jason and Chevelle

Jason’s voice is soo cool. He somehow manages to be high and squeaky and hiccuppy, yet growly and low at times. He’s also an amazing guitar player, busting out the nazzztiest surf riffs you can imagine.

Chris still smiling!

Chris still smiling!

And you’ve got Chris still smiling even though his arms probably feel like they’ll fall off during his 3rd set in a row that day! A great band that puts you in a great mood and puts on a great show perfect for dancing.

Good thing, too, cuz Mean Jeans were on next!

Mean Jeans are another of my favorite bands. They have songs about everything from Livin on Mars to being a School Lunch Victim.

Billy Jean

Billy Jean

Junior Jeans

Junior Jeans

Fun to sing along with and pogo and dance to, they had hilarious banter and jokes between songs. Every time they would play a song, Billy Jean would scream the name of it before they even counted off.

They often get compared to the Ramones because of their sound, but I think it’s much more fun, clever silliness, and parody. I absolutely adore how laid back they are. They just want to have fun!

The Zeros were on next. It got more crowded so I only managed to snap a few meager shots:

The Zeros

The Zeros

The Zeros are often referred to as the Mexican Ramones and formed in Chula Vista, CA in 1976.

They played a few familiar songs, but mostly new ones from their upcoming album. Sounds like it’s gonna be yet another great one!

Put on a badass show with a lot of energy and excitement!

Next was Fuzz, another project of Ty Segall, featuring Charlie Moonheart and ex Moonheart Roland Cosio.

And last, but not least, from Memphis, Tennessee, The Oblivians! It was getting dark and a little foggy towards the end of the fest, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a good time!
