One of the things that I enjoy about not paying much attention as to what other blogs are putting up is the idea that I really don’t know what I’m expected to like. I stay away from hype on purpose , it helps me to stay focused on what I like which leads us to my pick for our album of the week ‘Lost’ by The Basements. I have listened to this album quite a few times and I’m at the point where I am putting these guys right beside The Mystery Lights , The Reverberations, The Higher State , The Routes and The Maggie’s Marshmallows as the coolest garage rock/garagepunk bands of 2016. I had never heard of The Basements before this Album but I’m fast becoming a big time fan, they have it all going on, great garage vibe, give a listen if you dig any of the bands I just mentioned, give this LP a few spins, and soak it all in.

The Basements were formed in Thessaloniki in 2009 and are one of the best garage group of their country. After various changes to their members their current composition consists of John – vox, harmonica, maracas, tambourine, Nick – guitar vox, Kostas – bass, Alex – farfisa organ, Dimitris – drums.
Influenced by the American garage bands in the 60’s, they have created a compact sound energized with the dynamic rhythm section, wild vocals, the guitars at full speed fuzz, and farfisa in red. We are taking about real Garage Punk sound … just like those days were Wyld & Primitive !!
They have played together with leading bands of outer as the Sonics and Fuzztones and what characterizes their live performances are energy who make on stage, dragging the audience their paces. Considered one of the most dynamic bands of the Greek scene. In 2010 they released their first 7”ep “Heart of stone”, and follow their album ‘Im dead’ in 2012 and a split 7 “with Sound Explosion 2014, in Lost in Tyme Records.
