The musical roots of Ian and Dustin Meadows lie somewhere between the high lonesome sound of Bill Monroe, the simple sophistication of Woody Guthrie, the haunting melodies of the Appalachian Mountains, the backwoods blues of Robert Johnson, and the hard driving country of Johnny Cash; intertwining and then combining with a unique modern twist. American music in its truest sense, drawing heavily on a myriad of influences to create something new and authentic. (From)….The Meadows Brothers.com
As for me, this is the stuff I grew up on, good guitar playing, harmonica, a little steel pedal action, like a train moving down the track. That’s why I try to spend a little time each week listening to good old fashioned roots music. Shit keeps you grounded, reminds you of where you started this little journey, lets you go back to those early days when singer songwriters ruled the day. These brothers are the real deal, give them a listen , follow , buy , support you know the drill…
Let’s Meet….The Meadows Brothers……
Hi our name is….
The Meadows Brothers
And our sound might be best described as….
Acoustic Roots Music, Americana, Folk…. You get the idea!
Ian and Dustin Meadows
We are originally from…..
Chester, Connecticut! Represent!!
The first time we met was…..
At Middlesex Hospital on Dustin’s day of birth, December 11th 1995! A special day for sure.
We knew we were going to be a Band when………
We used to sing along and play air guitar to James Taylor albums starting at ages 4 and 2…. We’ve been singing and playing together in some form or another since then.
Before starting the band we were employed as…….
Between the two of us we’ve worked a lot of jobs… Washing dishes, commercial sign installation, house painting, landscaping, and now Dustin is finishing high school, waiting tables, and helping out at sessions at Dirt Floor Studio in Chester, while Ian works at a guitar shop in CT!
Our craziest gig ever was….
I don’t know about crazy, but in our early days we played a few gigs to a nonexistent audience. It is not fun at all. That has not happened for a while, thankfully.
The first song we wrote was…….
The first song that the two of wrote together is called “Trouble”.
It’s kind of a story being told by an average guy who’s going through some tough times, and trying to stay positive and hopeful and using music as a way to cope with what he’s experiencing. I guess you could say it’s kind of autobiographical, but only in the sense that we have ALL been the guy in the song. Troubled now, but not troubled long.
What we are currently listening to….
Dawes “Stories Don’t End”; Norman Blake “Blackberry Blossom”; Kerri Powers “Kerri Powers”; Bill Monroe “1950-54”; Dwight Yoakam “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.”; Pink Floyd “Wish You Were Here”; Townes Van Zandt “Live at the Old Quarter”; Ebin-Rose “Through the Wires”; Tom Petty “The Live Anthology”
A few albums we could never part with….
John Hartford “Aereo-Plain”; Gillian Welch/David Rawlings “The Harrow & The Harvest”; The Byrds “Sweetheart of the Rodeo”; The Black Crowes “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion”; Crosby, Stills & Nash “Crosby, Stills & Nash”; Tony Rice and Ricky Skaggs “Skaggs and Rice”
For fun we like to…..
Play guitar, write songs, listen to music…. And if unable to do any of those things we pass the time by thinking about playing guitar, writing songs, or listening to music. We’re pretty simple guys as far as keeping ourselves entertained.
The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us……
For us, it’s all about having fun and making people happy. We try to remember that we are entertainers as well as songwriters and musicians, and that listening/watching music can be such an amazing release from whatever is going on in your life. That’s not to say that all our songs are uptempo and about happy topics (in fact most are not), but we just want our music to resonate on an emotional level with the audience. And in our own experience, that’s what makes us happy.
Honest, expressive, roots music heavily influenced by a huge array of American artists and styles, all blended together to create…. Us. Our current album, which was our self titled debut is almost two years old, so it’s not so current anymore but we think it’s still a fun listen. We’re expecting to have new stuff out within the next month.
from us in 2014….
Tons of shows, a new EP recorded entirely at home (It’s called “Homegrown”, we’re very clever), a tour with our musical soulmates in Wise Old Moon (check them out!), and a possible vegetable garden in our backyard. Exciting Stuff!
